February's Mare of the Month is Padrons Lil Penny, known around the barn as "Dru". What a super little pony she has turned out to be for us and the girls can't imagine our barn without her. I have the strctest instructions from the girls that she is NEVER for sale! :) She loves attention and although she has her tough side, she is a total sweetheart and loves her life with us.
Before Dru came to us, she lived in some cold places. Born in chilly northern Minnesota (, http://www.holtepintabians.com/) Dru is loving all the California sunshine. She had a foal for her breeders - you can see her Miracle colt at her breeder's website (http://www.rosvoldfarms.com/Kahve.html)
With her second owners, she learned to be a show horse and conquered Pinto World earning hundreds of points and her Legion of Excellence in Halter in both the Youth and Amateur divisions. She was also named 2007 Pony of the Year Open Pleasure Type Mare Halter after earning points in Halter, Showmanship, Trail-in-Hand, and Jumping-in-Hand. All this at the tender age of 7! Quite a remarkable Half-Arabian mare!
Perhaps her real calling is jumping - she loves to jump and has beautiful form with every fence. Dru's mom, Smashing White was a famous gymkhana mare that won over 300 trophies in her day so she may be the next one to earn a buckle for our barn!
She is the favorite of Jordan, Julia, and Brooke and we are all grateful to have her in our barn. We look forward to many more years of happiness with her.
